The mashup.

Taking two songs, and mixing them together.

An incorrigible part of the modern music scene.

Sometime leading to wonderfully produced, technically proficient pieces of music that enhance one’s feeling about all the elements involved.

Most of the time, your average youtube mashup is one that just simply plays two popular songs at the same time, attempting to utilize the idea that if people like two separate songs, they’ll like them both together. Usually they’re a violation of your ear drums.

My roommate is a fan of a certain genre of mashups, known as THE SLAM JAM.

It’s where the theme song from the motion picture Space Jam is transposed with another song.

Most of them are what you might call ungood.

But today, I’m not here to talk about bad things, I’m here to talk about a diamond in the rough.

A mashup with the theme from Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr.

For me at least this is one of those rare instances when two things I like are combined into one thing and it turns out to be ok. It’s like a Reese’s cup, or those jars that have both peanut butter and jelly mixed inside them.

Hoop There It Is Indeed.
